Yes, we all want to be forever young!

So it’s no wonder the topic of anti-ageing has been getting lots of exposure lately, with the likes of David Sinclair, a Harvard Medical School researcher, making the rounds on podcasts, telling us how we can stay ‘forever young’.

So here at Pearlii, this got us thinking… Do our teeth age? And is there anything we can do about it?

Well, the answer is yes, to both questions.

What happens to our teeth as we get older?

As we grow older (and wiser!), our teeth grow older too, and as they do, comes the risk of oral health issues, including dental decay, gum disease and tooth loss.

Our teeth also gradually develop a yellowing colouring, making them look older (yay!). This is partly due to the yellowing of the ‘dentin’ inside teeth. The dentin becomes more visible as the enamel, which covers the surface of the tooth, thins as we mature. Enamel also gets stained by coffee, tea, and red wine (our certified favourites).

How can we slow the effects of our teeth ageing?

As you may already know, we at Pearlii are all about preventative measures when it comes to maintaining a healthy smile.

Just as we enjoy a consistent skin care routine to keep those pesky wrinkles at bay, we also enjoy a consistent oral care health routine, helping us keep our pearlers looking young and healthy. So we’ve written the below checklist to help slow the effects of our ageing teeth.

Anti-ageing checklist

  1. Brush twice per day
  2. Floss before you brush
  3. Drink plenty of water
  4. Avoid drinking coffee and red wine (sorry!)
  5. Lay off sugary and acidic foods
  6. Don’t smoke
  7. Visit your dentist every 6-12 months

And if your teeth do start yellowing in colour - or if you want to prevent that from happening in the first place - we have some tips to keep them as white as possible.

How to whiten ageing teeth

Just like applying anti ageing cream or retinol serum to maintain young and healthy skin, teeth whitening is a great way to ward off external stains on teeth, keep them looking young and fresh.

Teeth whitening toothpastes are an easy way to deal with these types of topical stains. And if you are like us and enjoy taking things a step further, teeth whitening kits are a great home remedy to keep those biters beaming bright!

In fact, we feel so strongly about this, that we’ve developed our very own Whitening Toothpaste, which tastes great, and does what it says on the tube. We also have our own Home Teeth Whitening Kits, helping us Pearlii folk smile with an overabundance of youth. Both of these products are dentist approved, too!

And to really help with our anti-ageing routines, we have available our ‘Bliss Pack’, which includes both of the above products, plus our Mosobrush (toothbrush), and Biofloss Easy Picks (floss). But be warned: Bliss Packs may result in being asked for I.D when ordering that next glass of rosé, or that cheeky cosmopolitan (don’t say we didn’t warn you!).

To conclude

Our teeth age, just like our bodies. And with that age, comes added risk of oral health problems, as well as a gradual yellowing of our teeth!

We can all follow an oral health routine to help slow down this process. Regular brushing, regular flossing, avoiding food and drink which causes staining, to name a few.

And for keeping your teeth looking extra young, we recommend using a tooth whitening toothpaste, and occasionally using a teeth whitening kit on your teeth, all in the comfort of your own home.

So, do you really want to live forever young? We sure do - and our Essentials Pack is a great place to start.
